Course Name: ISUP-LNP - Overview

Course length: 2 days

Description:  The purpose of this course is to provide an understanding of how call setup and Number Portability is accomplished using the SS7 protocol in the Common Channel Signaling (CCS) network.  The SS7 Protocol is used to set up voice paths, and query databases to make services work. The CCS network is used to pass information between the nodes and applications in the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).  This course provides an understanding of the CCS node functions, link designations, network architectures, message flows and message structure.

Outline:

Network Architecture

§         Wireline Networks

§         Network Interconnection

§         Nodes

§         Link Configurations

§         SS7 Protocol Structure

§         Message Routing

Trunk Signaling

§         Call Set-up

§         IntraLATA message flows

§         InterLATA message flows

§         ISUP Message Structure and Content

Number Portability

§         How NP is accomplished

§         Call Flow Scenarios

§         Database Query messages

§         Modifications to Trunk Signaling messages

Exercises will provide a real world understanding of the message used to setup and tear down interoffice calls and route calls to Ported Numbers.  Students will use SS7 captures to look at appropriate messages, interpret message content and understand troubleshooting techniques.
